We wanted to take a minute and let everyone know that Wichita Pride Inc. fully supports all of our Transgender community members in Wichita, the United States and the world. In the past few days there has been much news regarding a tweet by President Trump stating that Transgender men and women will no longer be able to serve in the United States Military. Wichita Pride Inc. has always and will always be a staunch supporter for Transgender people. We will always be here to support you and will always provide a safe place where everyone can feel equal and appreciated and welcome. Wichita Pride Inc. functions as a 501c3 organization. This tax classification is vital to our fundraising efforts however we often find ourselves frustrated because the 501c3 classification also limits and regulates our ability to be involved with activities that can be classified as “political”. To clarify; Wichita Pride Inc. supports and stands with all Transgender people, just as we always have, however we have to be extremely careful with what social media we post, share and distribute, as should any LGBTQIA+ organization. We must be vigilant in our actions because we are always being watched. One politically slanted article or opinion piece posted to the public could cost an organization their 501c3 status. The simple fact that the latest news that has affected our community came directly from the President requires extra precautions on our part. We will continue to share news articles regarding this issue as long as they do not violate our tax classification. Due to the political issues around the “No One Left Behind March” and its direct target of the President, Wichita Pride Inc. cannot be involved with the event. But I can assure you members of Wichita Pride Inc. will be in attendance individually to support our Transgender community. Travis Hooper, President, Wichita Pride Inc. ... See MoreSee Less
This was so touching. I bawled. Thinking about when I first told my mom in the 9th grade. I wonder how different my life would be if it was accepted like this mom did. But at age 24 I came out and at that point I didn't care who thought what. Everyone is accepting of it now so it's true love always wins!!
